Dunedin?  Isn't that just completed??

The 1914 East Course at Belleair is about to go under the knife.  I hope its as successful as the West!

Can they add any length to the East? I remember it being pretty short from the tips.

No, they really can't add acreage.  The original 1914 East ended in back-to-back par threes - only Ross to do so (I' pretty sure) and maybe only full size course to do so (just guessing)??  Anyway, the new East will again end in a single par three but the course will remain tight - full sized on 105 acres or so.

It would be great to see every old Donald Ross municipal get its day in the sun again. Places like Brainerd in Chattanooga and Asheville Muni come to mind.
But for selfish reasons, my one vote would go to the Country Club of Asheville.

Hanse was actually at Denison recently as part of an effort to drum up support for the reno-resto. The university does not have quite all the funds necessary to greenlight the project (and its clubhouse component) but the formal event is at least a nice nod that they are trying. There is, however, a master plan in existence. Looks nice.

Palatka is cited by the Florida Historic Golf Trail as a W.D. Clark design.

At the beginning of the year, I reached out to 125 or so GCA contacts to request their restoration nominations, so that I could create a Top 25 of the "most in-demand" restoration projects in the United States. The most popular Ross request was George Wright, but further down the line, two other municipal options also made the Top 25 cut, in Manakiki (Cleveland) and Triggs Memorial, respectively.

As an Ohioan, I'm inclined to support Manakiki as an option.

Wasn't George Wright restored some years back by Mark Mungeam?   What's left to do?

Having not played it, I've got no ground to stand on, even rocky Boston-area ground. There were certainly a few courses on the list that elicited similar feedback. Just double-checked and indeed Andy Johnson of The Fried Egg recommends a restoration at GW circa 2021. His verbiage suggests that it was never fully restored.

I am hopeful (no pun intended) that the potential restoration of Hope Valley proceeds in a few years. The original routing is intact, and there are a full set of the Ross original drawings/plans.

His only course in California is Peninsula CC in San Mateo.  Tyler Rae has recently been hired and is currently doing a master plan.  This will be an exciting addition to the Bay Area golf scene.

Woodhill GC in Orono, Minnesota.

A Donald Ross original design in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. Brian Schneider is completing a full scale restoration of the course in FY 2025.

The property is land with a fair amount of movement, reminiscent of New England. In years past the course has fallen into some traps consistent of other clubs of similar heritage - too many trees, mowing lines, etc.

I've seen Brian's plans and they are extensive. Will be very interesting & exciting to see the only full Ross design (not redesign) in the Twin Cities be restored.

Manakiki is a wonderful course and a restoration would be awesome. First order of business is demolishing those cart paths. Borderline offensive locations for some of them.

Pat,

I played Woodhill a few years ago and agree the tremendous land movement lends itself to excellent golf. In speaking with the pro, I was under the impression that not much had changed materially at the course over the years. I did notice the tees on 7 had been shifted to the right for safety reasons, however, the major issues seemed to be tree encroachment and fairway mowing lines.

Curious to see Brian’s plan and compare against what is on the ground today.

What do we know about what the master plan would mean for the 4 non-original holes?

As an Ohioan myself, I agree with your Manakiki call since I'd generally assume a true Granville restoration is an impossibility. Manakiki could be a real jewel with a little effort.
