This question was brought up at the 25th anniversary/Mashie celebration in Pinehurst this past week by El Prez Vaughn Halyard, but it's an interesting question worth asking the entire group in honour of Donald Ross' birthday (November 23).
So, what Donald Ross golf course do you want to see be restored? There have been a handful of quality Ross renovations this side of the millennia, but I'm curious as to some of the lesser-known Ross courses that could be great in your opinion.
I'll start: Mississaugua in Toronto. While not a pure Ross (George Cumming did the original layout, with Ross overhauling the property), bringing back the Ross features would add a lot to the layout, which is more of a Doug Carrick these days than anything else. Stanley Thompson did renovate shortly after Ross (much like nearby Lambton) which complicates defining who did what in old aerials and photos---though their obvious stylistic differences could be sifted through. Nonetheless, the property has potential, with an aggressive ridge separating the high side holes from the low side, with two holes slowly working their way down into the Credit River valley and the superb 15th thrusting itself back up.
What says you?
