Picking up on the thread about the best nine in SF (which just expanded to Pasatiempo), here is my perspective of the best nine anywhere:

Pasatiempo Second
North Berwick Second
Nairn Second
Somerset Hills First
Golspie First
Pac Dunes Second
Yale Second (and First)

I agree with Ian Andrew's two courses.  I would add the front nine of Crystal Downs, Pine Valley, and Sand Hills to the list.

All great choices.  The front nine at Crystal Downs is probably my personal favorite of the bunch, but I wouldn't argue that it's better than the rest of these.

What do folks think about Worplesdon’s back 9. I recall thinking it is one of the best 9s in England which would make it exceptional.

Do we think people are more likely to call out great nines when there is a clearer disparity between the front and back?

For instance, I might name Lahinch front, RCD front and Ballybunion back as the three best nines in Ireland.

Yet I think Portrush is the best course and could easily argue  Portmarnock as the second best…

RCD and CD Front 9's are definitely the best 9 holes stretches I've seen. My other favorites;

Kirtland CC Back 9 (Ironic that one of the best holes is on the front ~ #9)
Sunningdale New Front 9 (#4-#6 is one of my favorite stretches in golf)
Streamsong Blue Front 9 (#2-#7 and #9 are fantastic holes that don't get enough love)
Kingsley Club Front 9 (#2, #3, #8, #9 are my four favorite holes on property. They should flip the 9's imo)

I've always been quite fond of the front 9 at St George's (Toronto). Shot-for-shot, few others that I've seen so far can match what it has to offer

I think I'd very happily play the front nine holes at Silloth for the rest of my days.

In addition to those already mentioned...

Back nine at Pyle and Kenfig even if only for the contrast from the front.

Front nine at NGLA is pretty darn special too (back nine is not half bad either although I think I slightly prefer the front - especially for architecture aficionados (template ones anyway)).

One of my favorite nines is the back nine at Musgrove Mill. It had wonderful par threes, varied par fours and two very good par fives.
