It's been nine months since the 2024 Open ended with a record-high number of arrests. The tournament was plagued by poor weather, was severely overcrowded, and became so disorganized that it infuriated professional golfers and longtime fans alike. Some questioned whether they would return next year.
Both Scottsdale officials and The Thunderbirds, a nonprofit that runs the Open, promised changes to prevent the decades-old event from descending into chaos again.
Tournament organizers unveiled their plan to do that on Monday. Among other things, the Open will ax the use of physical tickets sold by third-party vendors, add a second entrance near the 18th Hole and double the size of walkways that became severely congested at the 2024 event.
