The NYT article is really just great. As a long-time Springdale GC (Princeton, NJ) member this is a fun - when worlds collide moment.
Mike Cirba has noted in several of his articles and posts that Hugh Wilson played his college golf at Springdale when it was the Princeton Golf Club and actually joined our Greens Committee in 1900 when we were moving the course to it’s current location. It seems highly likely that he was at least exposed to Willie Dunn Jr’s work laying out the first nine holes at the current site. The club found Wm Flynn to re-design the course in 1926 who wanted to do a great job as a testament to his mentor Wilson. The Cobb’s onsite Project Development Manager – Don Dissinger - is an old friend who has played many rounds at Springdale with me.
I am equally pleased to see that Cirba and Bausch are still recognized for the efforts bringing Cobbs’ history to light.
