GCA Courses by Country and 147+ Custodians Map
« on: October 17, 2024, 07:37:30 PM »
I was chatting with Will Thrasher, as he started the Raynor map discussion, and followed his lead to take the time to make an interactive map for the course write ups and custodian courses listed here.

I've linked each location to the "Courses by Country" entry if the course has one. If not, the location will link to the 147 Custodians page, where you can find the blurb.

I know a bunch of the course icons are faded, that's just because they don't have any substantial info yet on the wiki, but I'll try and make it a goal to update these 298 (!?!) courses. For anyone who has gone through all the course write ups here, you'll know that one course is missing. Obviously, if you find any errors, and I do make mistakes, please let me know.

Anyway, here is the link: https://golfcourse.wiki/list/gca

I offer this edit in the friendliest of ways: The Ohio "Brookside" included in 147 Custodians is Brookside of Canton, not Brookside of Columbus.

Matt, thanks for improving my manual google maps version :) . Thank you!

Out of my nerdy curiosity is it possible to sort the list in order of Ran's 150 instead of alphabetical? For reference here's mine that I manually added.

Yes, I will do that. Since it's a combination of Courses by Country (already alphabetical) and the 147+, I'll sort it by first by the 147+ and then add the Courses by Country that aren't on the list at the end. It'll probably take me a hot minute, but i'll make time for it today and bump this thread when I finish.

I will also throw in a few more, former courses that were brought to my attention (thanks Paul), but I'm not sure where they should link to, so perhaps I'll just link them to this thread, so people know why they are on here. If someone has the URLs that point at the former lists, please shoot them my way.

Okay Will, I've changed the map to order things (on desktop) in the following order:
  • 150 courses from the 147+ list in order
  • former courses that were on that list, but no longer are (in the order of their former highest rank)
  • courses that are featured on the courses by country page, but were never on the 147+ list
I will add this: holy crap that took wayyyyyy too much time. If I knew this morning it would take most of my afternoon, I would have told you that alphabetical is fine and just deal with it.  ;D
