Golf and lego and ....
« on: October 24, 2023, 04:04:09 AM »
Recently I looked at some course photos of a famous course, one on an open treeless location that might or might not have recently been recreated.
I then went and found not some computer programme or even some plasticine but my sons large box of lego, now residing unused for decades in a cupboard.
With a little dexterity I replicated some holes with lego. Raised bits, sunken bits, yellow bits, blue bits etc.
Then I got thinking a bit more and found some of my sons old toy soldiers and small vehicles. A bit more study from different angles and a military training ground including assault course appeared. Bit like a course I played on as a kid myself back 50+ years ago.
And then my little grey cells went into overdrive and I got thinking of an idea for a golf course and a paint-balling site at the same location.
And then I woke up. :)
Any similarities with the founding and evolution of golf?

I'm getting "dual-purpose golf" vibes here. Certainly golf and paintball is dual. I think the origin of the game was dual with travel (point A to point B) with the Dutch sailors walking into St. Andrews.

I have my own dual-purpose thing that I've sometimes imagined. Playing down a ski slope with clubs in the summertime. Not as a business idea, just think it would be fun to play a steep, downhill par 16 or par 42 hole (depending on the length and steepness of the run).

Charlie, I'd love to stand on the top of Palivacini at ABasin with a driver. I'd be like Alan Shepherd hitting the ball on the moon, "Miles and miles and miles."

I have a dream where I get off the lift and spin a right drop in off the front of 10 tee at Augusta. I make a few turns then realize I won’t get to the green and straightline it down the left side. I never get to the green…

Not so much dreams and dual-usage, more military features and construction.

Looks a little like the real original redan!
