Wakonda (Des Moines) restoration

Wakonda is undergoing a restoration by Tyler Rae, and David Blum has some great images of the progress.

For those of you who played Wakonda before this work, it is quite staggering (in the best possible way) to see the drastic tree removal that has occurred. Those claustrophobic fairways are long gone.


Congrats to all those involved. Iowa golf keeps on getting better and better.

I have not played Wakonda in nearly 40 years.  The undulating land and the L&M shaping were dramatic even to a teenager.  I bet the renovated course will be fantastic.
