Judy said a player with back trouble may have been left off the European team because the course is a tough walk. Juli said she didn’t see a divot in the fairways.

I've played the course a couple of times and it is a typical Cabell Robinson course which is to say it is fairly solid tee to green however it is on fairly challenging topography. I've only played it in a cart and glad I did because the walks from green to tee (usually back the way) are fairly extreme plus the course is fairly hilly. So I can imagine it will be a physical challenge for the players as well as the spectators.

Thanks for indulging a non-archie, Niall. My impression is that the course does not challenge the Solheim Cuppers.

This is my first look at the Costa del Sol! When aerial views are shown and the commentators praise the beauty of the place, I don't share the enthusiasm. Coachella Valley on Sea?

Generally the golf on the Costa Del Sol isn't the best but it's a relatively short flight for other northern European countries such as the UK and Scandinavia and has the attraction of sun, sea and sangria. As I've said before, in terms of golf, try and avoid any course that Seve put his name to. On the other hand anything by Cabell Robinson is likely to be pretty decent if not great. IIRC he also designed La Reserva and Santana, both of which I think are better than Finca.

Agree on this, there is nothing very good on the Costa del Sol if you like your golf pure. Most of the land is just too hilly to walk and consequently makes for a course with a number of blah holes and long walks/buggy trecks. The climate is nice for greens but not really for the ground game.

Low 20s most of the winter, shorts, buggy, good company, few beers, nice food, watch the football in the bars on the night, is my kind of Winter.

Beats driving rain and a wet arse for 99%.
