1. Do we think this is a bad thing?

2. Is "putting on slow greens" further down on the list?

Nope - a STRIKE of the ball should be required.    Putting on the greens at Old Minch, Cleeve Hill and Painswick - running at 6 or 7 was a great equalizer.  Can’t help but think this was originally how the game was played.

I grew up playing a nine holer with greens that slow.  Tiny pushed up greens that could be pinned anywhere.  Three of the greens are unplayable at today’s speeds.

It’s a skill to be able to make the adjustment from slow to fast or fast to slow in short order. I play a lot of rounds early a.m. in New England and often get a variance in speed from front to back with the dew.

Let me guess Tim - you hit it easier and play more break when the greens speed up.

I think Ben Hogan agreed with that sentiment.

Hard disagree.

Not even leaving golf… tapping in doesn't require much athleticism.

I think baseball and golf, while seemingly polar opposites, are the two hardest sports to master. I do consider golf to be very low on the totem pole of athletic endeavors. Putting, undoubtedly a unique skill, requires even fewer athletic qualities than an actual swing of the club.

Trueness of roll please. Speed a secondary consideration.
