All the top 50 players have done very well.  Maybe not in comparison to other pro athletes, but fine nonetheless.
You may have seen Hovland's answer when they asked him about his $18 million prize, and he talked about his simple lifestyle.  You have to believe that his primary motivation in winning wasn't money.
I think Rahm is right for the top guys--they are not focused on money as their main goal.  And I think there is way too much talk about it from all quarters.

Holding a 6 shot lead is hard, because you can only loose... I once had a 5 stroke lead starting the final round at my club championship... it was narrowed down to 2 strokes... gave myself a mental speech in the eight fairway, birdied the hole and made 8 consecutive pars after that which pretty much seal the deal.


From an architecture standpoint, i think variety is once again the answer... i feel it's nice to have 1 or 2 "scary" shot to play over the last 5-6 hole. Scary shots that could lead to a double bogey.. and give other players hope...
Too many scary shots will be just too hard so a comeback would be improbable...
1-2 scary shot and you have players think about it a few holes prior..

I had an enormous lead in a college tournament when I was just learning to compete 
I didn’t know how big until I made the turn the last round.
I honestly didn’t know what to do


All of a sudden I hit a few shots way too cautiously made a series of bogies largely due to thinking more about “not messing up” than what I had been doing. I won by a lot but shot 40 my last nine and learned that I really needed to focus and play the game all the time the way I planned.


Q schools were another interesting mind set. Being a couple shots under the number was very difficult for me to focus on the correct shot.  My head always got “busy”.  Great players seem to have one voice in their head, I had a committee

Since they went to this format, I’ve thought it would be nice to give the Calamity Jane putter trophy to whoever actually takes the fewest shots for 72 holes. No money, but at least that recognition.

Ah pressure.
A few quotes and the like come to mind. Didn’t Lee Trevino say something about pressure being when you’re playing for $5 but you’ve only got $1 in your pocket? Another I recall is something like “Even if I finish second I’ll still have steak for dinner.”
My favourite though is Australian cricketer Keith Miller, who’d been a pilot in WW2. When asked about the pressure of playing cricket for Australia he replied along the lines of “Representing your country isn’t pressure, it’s pleasure. Pressures when you’ve got a Messerschmitt up your arse.”

I'm paraphrasing but I read an EOD specialist state the best aspect of his job was if he screwed up, he'd never know about it.
