Qualifying rounds for the Scottish Amateur are being played at Royal Dornoch and Tain yesterday and today. Cameron Adam followed up the course record 63 he shot at Royal Dornoch yesterday with a 63 today at Tain. VERY impressive.

He did,  no bogies.  Yesterday was a very pleasant day with light breeze.  Today was windier with some showers.


The player who came in second shot a bogey free 65-65.

Did RD reset the course record with the new hole (new course)?

Good question. Not 100% sure of the answer, but my guess is the 63 on Tuesday is the lowest score that has been posted with both the new 7th hole and the changes to the 8th hole in play.

I am pretty sure that 63 (and possibly even a 62) has been posted in the past, prior to the changes to the 7th & 8th holes.

Medalist Cameron Adam has made the semi-finals. The semi in the bottom half of the draw features local favorite Chip Mailley (several times winner of the Carnegie Shield and multi-time club champ at both Brora & Royal Dornoch) against Gregor Trait, who was the losing finalist a year ago.

My guess is Chip M. is almost twice as old as the other 3 guys in the semis.

To add to this, Jack MacDonald who is Adam’s opponent tomorrow played the four par 3s today in 7 strokes in his quarterfinal match.  He aced the second and birdied the other three.  That is an amazing feat at any course, but Dornoch’s par threes are all very challenging.


Adam also holds the course record on the Struie course with a 64.
