Oh Adam,

Who makes that decision today, tomorrow, and even made it last year, twenty years past ? Of course, that's where the source of the damage has occurred, and I admit it would take a bit of courage on the part of the R & A / USGA to take the "Specification" for a golf ball back in time. Perhaps they should simply retrace their own footsteps by consulting their rule books and pick a year ? Oh aye - and don't forget to keep the bloody thing the same size on both sides of the big pond !! Jesus Harry C***** we don't want to further complicate the exercise !
As for GCA's architects - dinna worry ! That's just a wee bit o scaremongering from Adam. Courses will be built, the existing ones will still need tinkering, life WILL go on.
What's an "Ayn Rander" ? (Daft Jock here)
Personally, I would take it back to good old GUTTA PERCHA. Then you would all know what "primordial excitement" really was ! Hell yeah, as I've heard it said in US films.

ps ; had to look up primordial for clarity (daft Jock, again)

Adam-

You are much too droll for me.  And less not talk about ass-kising anymore, lest we are forced to join Dr. Moriarty's crowd in denouncing the ratings.  Do you not agree that proportionally more pros hit it long today than in Nicklaus's era?  Has the disparity between the pros and J.P. ever been greater?

Dick-

Thanks for the correction.  I was trounced by Brad and retained Doug as my counsel in rhetorical tangles with the evil Dr. Moriarty.  While I didn't have the chance to spend much time with Doug, apparently he had an impact because it is not the first time that I've mixed up the two.
