Winning score at the US Open
« on: June 14, 2023, 12:29:57 PM »
There is no history of TOUR players at LACC, so we have no history informing our guesses. I am going to guess that even par will win. There are just too many loonng holes with intricate greens.

In the golf pool I'm in the tie breaker is winning score.  Since the Association governing this event has been known "to protect par", I took -2 as the tiebreaker.  I'm sticking with that choice.

With the distance they can stretch those par 4s and 3s, combined with basically being at Sea Level in the thick-ish coastal air...

I could see even par winning if they decided to keep most holes tipped out all 4 rounds.

It's firming up out here. Would have thought double digits last week easily but now... -7

Wow! That's a bold prediction. Those guys are really good, -12 seems to be pushing it.

-9 for me (though I hope I'm wrong and it's +4, I just can't see it).

Wasn't Erin Hills the longest course the US Open has been played on...also ended up being the lowest score to par at -16.

Went to the Pac-12's where Homa shot 61.  Don't think we'll see a new course record but I'm in the double digit under par group at -10.

Having spent a few days on site now, I think -10 wins it. The course is firming up nicely.

Very unusual for So. Cal.; Bermuda fairways and Pure Distinction bent grass greens. I doubt you will see much of the So. Cal.  players will have an advantage.

I was watching the Max Homa interview yesterday where he was asked about a local advantage and he talked about poa in the greens, saying there are a number of players that hate poa.

Lots of room of many tees
Tee shots rolling a bit

I believe there will be enough guys that can bomb it to have someone get to -14

It is looking like they are going lower than what was predicted here.  Leader after Round 1 is going to be -8 or lower.  Winning score should then be what - about -15?  Maybe we will see Rory's low score of 268 broken - that would take lower than -12 as it is par 70/280.  And Rickie just broke Johnny Miller's record of 63.
