And the eclipser might be eclipsed 15 minutes later if Xander can sink a 25 ft putt.

Shame this didn't happen while he was still in the booth!

What a shame we can't see how the course is set up and how it's playing because 90% of NBC's broadcast is a putt fest...

Do you think the members are upset that their course is being spanked?

I just finished texting with several LACC member-friends. Uniformly, they are both slightly disappointed and not at all surprised.  The persistence of the not unusual marine layer over West L.A. over the last 90 days hasn't allowed the fairways to shed enough moisture to get super fast and firm. My pals are long-time members and knew this was the risk of holding an Open this time of year.

The average predicted score between the was 8-10 under. Granted, after the impressive performance of Fowler and Schauffele, these #'s are in real danger. Let's reserve judgement until we see what chicanery and subterfuge the Blue Bloods use to turn the screws over the next three days.

Johnny never mentioned his 63 half as much as those who like to whine about it act like he did.

63 to win with persimmon and balata is a step above a modern-day 62 on Thursday.
Not that 62 isn't anything but great.
I played the day Norman shot 63 at Turnberry in 1986. That course was brutal and the score truly unbelievable.

Johnny was way better with the color commentary than Immelman or Azinger. His candor was a rare thing among ex-players turned announcer who seemingly have never wanted to offend any of their peers. As Mike Clayton mentioned the 63 with persimmons and wound balls was quite a feat and that isn’t meant to take anything away from the pair of 62’s recorded today.

In the last round in ‘73 there were only three other rounds in the 60s.

And it was the final round and he was one of only 4 players to break 70 that day.

The 63 at Oakmont was also -8, so there is still a tie vis-a-vis par.
Someone retroactively reviewed the round for a comparison to the shotlink era stats, and Miller's round was +8.90 strokes better than field average tee to green.
