Also,I believe the beach running scenes in Chariots of Fire were filmed on the beach in St Andrews past the new clubhouse by Jubilee.

This topic reminded me that my home course, La Purisima, is featured in the memorable USGA TV ad of the kid making a hole in one. The hole is the 17th green at La Purisima in Lompoc, CA. It is a par 3 of 150 yards. The kid is hitting his shot from about 90 yards.

If you want to read more about the ad, here is a good story from 2005

How about the recent scene in "Entourage" where Ari disrupts his therapist's game?  I assume it was somewhere in So. Cal. given the filming location and the look of the course.

Alisal River--Sideways.

There may have been another course too in that movie.  i can't remember now.

This is correct. I believe in the book that Rex Pickett had La Purisima in mind. If I remember right, he formulated the book while playing there and I do think Miles was loosely based on himself. Pickett has alot of love for LP.

I didn't know the Goldfinger scene was done at Stoke Poges.

I think, just think, that in the novel the course Fleming describes is Royal St. Georges/Sandwich...Fleming was a member there, I think. It's a fun read

Peter

Peter
Agreed, the book bases the game at RSG (thinly disguised as Royal St Marks) but in the film they use Stoke Poges, presumably due to its close location to Pinewood Studios.

Fleming was a member at RSG.  I'm sure I've read somewhere that he was due to be captain of the club when he died.

Andrew you left off the best bit.  In the excellent Biography by John Pearson, Commander Fleming who had survived Eton, WW2 and a lot more, died of a heart attack that occurrred during the Comittee meeting at RSG that was to finalise details of his year as Captain.  Let that be a warning to you. How are your preparations going? ;)

( May I be the first to congratulate you on here (no everyone else it's not RSG I'm talking about)).

Confidential, moving North - if you get my drift!

Tony
Thanks for your concern and pointing out the perils of approaching high office. The heart has survived my first three months as junior vice. Most difficult bit so far has been telling the rabbits captain that he's not entitled to park in the club captain's alloted parking space ;D

Northward drift duly noted thanks ;)

When they adjusted Tubac CC for Tin Cup we casually assisted Art Snyder (the late greenkeeper there) with some nuances. The producers were very specific and wanted certain conditions — not many of which matched the course or reality! Anyway, it was fun to see in come together.

Our indoor golf center was used for the filming of a scene in a movie last February.

Does that count?  8)

True story: for a high school film project about post-Apocalypse survival I filmed an 8mm movie with soundtrack to CSN "Wooden Ships" where we had the survivor's rowboat wash up on shore alongside the 8th hole of the Rockaway Hunting Club. (I've always been partial to short par-4s, esp. after nuclear war.)

In the classic movie era, there are a couple of scenes filmed at Los Angeles clubs.
Big Broadcast of 1938
A Three Stooges short on caddying
A Little Rascals short
These scenes actually could be of use for architectural insight.

The golf course in Caddyshack was the former Rolling Hills resort in south Florida. Presumably it was chosen because it didn't look like it was in south Florida.

I think it is called Royal Oaks or something boring like that now, and I'm pretty sure the entire golf course was overhauled and probably bears little resemblance to the course in the film. Being a rabid connoisseur of the movie myself, I am somewhat saddened by that fact, although it doesn't look like a terribly interesting golf course.

OK, here's the scoop on Bagger Vance:

City scenes: Savannah
War Scenes: near Beaufort
Clubhouse Scenes: Jeckell Islnad
Jack Lemon open and heart attach: No. 11 on Cougar Point at Kiawah Island
Park Bench scene with Damon and Theron: Between driving range and No. 9 at Turtle Point at Kiawah Island
Argument on course between Damon and Theron: in the trees on No. 2 on The Ocean Course
No. 17 deciding if the match will move forward due to darkness: No. 9 on The Ocean Course
No. 18: hole specially built for movie with green directly adjacent to old clubhouse and tee our in the marsh adjacent to No. 9. (and, as in the movie, the land has returned to its natural state -- in our case, a staging are for major tournmanets on the back of the driving range)
Other golf scenes: Dye Course at Colletin River Plantation

Working with the crew was one of my first jobs here at Kiawah and I'm can honestly say I'm one of the few people alive who has played golf with Walter Hagen ;).  Actually, the actor who played him, Bruce McGill, best know as D-Day in Animal House.

have only seen a couple of the wonderful Jones instructional movies he did in Hollywood in the 30s but likewise, they offer uncanny glimpses of the courses.

One more for the fans of the Sopranos...various golf scenes over the years were filmed at Upper Montclair CC in Clifton, NJ.  Tony pushing Uncle Junior's doctor back until he was standing in a pond, Carmine Luppertazzi dying of a heart attack while having lunch at his country club, etc.

a couple Philly golf course scenes both with Mark Harman

Stealing Home - Phila Cricket 1st hole

Worth Winning - Manufacturers 1st hole

funny i think both scenes involved some sort of bet between men involving women getting laid and/or married.

Episode 6 of Season 5 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel just aired yesterday on Amazon Prime. There’s a scene about Suzie Myerson’s most legendary deal-making day of all time, known as the “triple crown”, and it was filmed at Wykagyl Country Club. There’s some wonderful shots of the golf course & clubhouse that include the 11th & 13th holes and some great vistas across the property. It all adds up to a great scene with the costumes, caddies, golf bags, music and golf carts included.
