LIV Golf finally on the verge of a TV Deal
« on: January 18, 2023, 11:59:54 AM »
“It’s crucial,” LIV CEO Greg Norman told GOLF last week. “We have a great platform that really should be shown to the world. When we go internationally, we are applauded and accepted and everybody wants to see us. So here in the United States, it was obviously a very critical point to our business plan to make sure we do get on TV and we will get on TV.”

That’s a decent deal from a homes-reached perspective. An over-the-air network (the fifth of five, but still free TV) in more homes than any cable network, including ESPN. On WPIX 11 New York, KTLA 5 Los Angeles, WCIU 26 Chicago, which people watch. The only U.S. market they’re not in is Lima, Ohio.

If the deal is revenue-sharing LIV might get a dollar back.

Ha ha exactly Craig.  Sundays are gonna be an awesome lineup.

Re-runs of Smallville and Gilmore Girls, then The Flash, with golf to chase it all down.   ;D

What do you people watch on network television? I watched Yellowstone one night live with commercials. After that experience it’s wait and stream on Paramount +.

What do you hope to gain by the failure of the LIV?

John Kavanawe,

What do I hope to accomplish by the demise of the 54 Hole Tour?  Just a big poke in the eye of a ruthless, murderous regime.

The CW is a major network, just like Bob Tway and Larry Mize are major champions.

I read an interview recently with Ian Poulter lamenting the treatment the LIV players have received from the subject tours but that it doesn’t carry over to individual players that didn’t jump ship. That may be true for select relationships but there is too much information already in the public domain that goes against that. I would cite Rory as just one guy that doesn’t feel this way. I didn’t mean to threadjack as my observation doesn’t deal with the TV deal.

I love Buffy!  Watching her slay vampires is better than watching BDC blast 400 yard drives and 3 putting greens!

No, it's just an over-the-air network. 14 hours a week. No weekday daytime programming. No network newscasts. Doesn't even fit the old FCC definition of a network in terms of hours served (to trigger non-syndication rules in the old days, and Fox doesn't either).

It does have some well-known co-owned affiliates in WPIX New York and KTLA Los Angeles, plus a popular Chicago station (WCIU 26) as a foundation.

Evidently the PIF offered Liberty Media $20 billion for F1 but were turned down. So they're ready to splash down ever more insane money. The president of the FIA (governing body of the sport) basically called the offer ridiculous.

I googled that and have no idea what it refers to. Would you be willing to explain it a bit?

Definitely less desperate than you constantly sound on here JK. LIV seems to be your greatest cause and reason for being...

I caught one of these commercials last night. They're specifically for PGA TOUR Live, the streaming coverage of events on ESPN+. I didn't sense any desperation in them. Just a new campaign for a new year.
