Slightly OT—Course Names
« on: December 30, 2022, 11:48:23 AM »
Yesterday I learned of a course named Chagrin Valley (ironically while playing Hope Valley).

Other ominous sounding course names?

PS Chagrin Valley is one of the few Stanley Thompson US courses.

Dismal River

Myopia (you'll go blind if you keep playing!)

Chagrin is a good one though.

Not sure if it has a golf course in the city limits...

But Los Banos in Central California has a fitness and racquetball club

They've since changed the name given its dastardly reference.

Its now Latah Creek

Cold Springs CC in Placerville, CA used to host the Hangtown Open golf tournament which featured a bag tag prominently displaying a tree with a noose(now retired). Gold field justice for horsethiefs and claim jumpers. :o
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

PS Chagrin Valley is one of the few Stanley Thompson US courses.
There are 5 Thompson courses in Cleveland alone.
I work with two of them.

The list I shared here - many years ago - included 14 courses in the US.
I think only two are NLE now.

I worked on "Frog's Breath" a private nine-hole course in North-eastern Ontario
Memorable name. Great logo. The most exposed (washed) rock on any project I've worked on.

Always thought Druids Glen  and Superstition Mountain were good monikers

Steve S  I worked at Adios Golf Club in  winter 1983-84.  What a great job. NO clubhouse yet just  big friendly tent. I was blessed to be head flunky for the guy who ran the tent, Ralph G !  Made a fortune that winter. Caddied for Whitey < Mickey and all the Yankees. Sam Snead , Dave Thomas , Arnie at least once every other week etc etc etc

Better yet was procurement agent for all food, booze and whatever needed in tent. No girls though....best job ever

Crazy place to this day, named after Adios , a famous trotter trained by one of the club founders Del Miller

Tobacco Road is a curious name. I never understood the connection between the name and the logo.
