Found this by complete chance. May have been mentioned before on GCA, but worth everyone's attention.

That is a great find! It's a nice look at how things have changed and how they've stayed the same.

I noticed that it appears they're monetising the SI vault, it used to be free. Also, the byline is just "SI Staff". Lastly, the lack of the oxford comma drove me a little nuts! But still a fun article to read.

Great read. It makes Doak look tame…and modest.

Spending a bit of time with Mr. Jones could be a learning experience.  You will never hear me saying my courses are all great or anything close to that.  I learned that it was a turn-off.

I always liked Mike Young's take on their feud, that it was something of a class war. Jones wanted to keep the business "professional" and Wilson stayed out of the ASGCA, for whatever reason -- I think mostly because Mr. Jones was a big voice there.

But it's also important to note that Dick Wilson was into his days as a heavy alcoholic by the time of this piece.  He was battling himself as much as anyone else.

I was curious about that and luckily the table of contents for the magazine was posted.  The article was written by Gwilym S. Brown, a name I don't recall ever seeing.  He knew how to pick a fight, though!

Charlie,

That's a reporter for you - the AP style.

SI did an article on him in 1968.
Besides articles, he wrote "golfers' gold" w/Tony Lema. Sadly, he died of a brain tumor in 1974 at the young age of 46.
