Note Gene Littler's caddie  Tommy Elder would become the caddie  master in the upcoming years. He is in his eighties now and probably shot his age at least 1000 times.

Architecturally note how crazy the 10th hole bunkers were, they have become much easier over the years.

p.s.

Legend also has it that they had had Leo Fraser fill in some missing video as one of the players but I have never seen this verified

Also, 2:30 AM on Friday. Every time. I hope he plays five better this time.

I used to have a tape of this match, but it's probably long gone.  What I recall is that although Littler and Nelson hitting their shots are actual, a lot of the landings had to be recreated by someone else because the camera operator couldn't follow the actual shots.  One youtube version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XdVWUTLhdI

Aren’t there supposed to be suspicions as to Littlers playing and scoring of the 5th hole?

Archie, Jim Fraser confirmed on FB the part about Leo filling in shots not captured in the original video.

I would take Jim’s word at face value as confirmation

I had forgotten that Gene birdied the last two holes.  Twenty-five years older and retired, Byron shot 74 easily without making much.  And out drove Gene regularly.  I thought the greens looked in good shape, but some of the fairways looked like the poa was dead or dying.  Does NJ have poa?  Shell's original WWofG was must viewing as a kid for me.

I know I'm late to this but I'm just seeing this now for the first time (Catching up on my DVR).

I love how easy it is to see the undulations on the green. The whole broadcast makes terrain seem sweeping and severe. I suppose some of that comes from the lack of crowds, which allows hills and rough areas really stand out.

The illustrations of the holes are beautiful and certainly of a different era.

The announcers whisper and are almost sympathetic to the players, like they are in it with them.

While the course is certainly the star here this is also a great way to watch Nelson (personally my all-time favorite swing in the game).
