Five Rounds at Streamsong
« on: December 09, 2022, 02:24:27 PM »
I'm going to Streamsong next year and will have time for 5 "full" rounds.  What course would you play just once, and why?  Or is there one you would skip altogether?

Don't skip any.  They are all way too good for that.

I've probably been on 10 trips there already and have 2 more in the next few months, so I'm very in tune with it and have seen how a lot of other traveling companions view it.  With that basis, the one thing that I'd say is that the Black course tends to be the most alienating on first-play and then grows on you on subsequent plays, whereas the Red and Blue present really strongly and as you'd expect from the get-go.  The Red and Blue are just not as visually disorienting on the view lines.  So, with that said, I'd recommend playing the Black twice with some separation in those rounds, just so that you can get to the point where you start to appreciate it more.

Play them all, with no question whatsoever.

As for the other two plays, wait (if you can?) and see what appeals most.  If you have to book in advance, I guess the Red and Blue for the replays, but it’s a tough call for me to leave the Black out; it is unique.

Personally, I'd play Black and Blue twice and Red once.

I suspect most wouldn't agree and instead prefer the more obvious strategies and challenges of the Red but if you prefer figuring it out for yourself and learning what alternatives might be available on subsequent plays then you'll do well where I'm suggesting.

Mike, I don’t disagree with you at all.

BUT I would strongly urge anyone playing the Black for the first time, and maybe any time, to pony up for a caddie, as opposed to “figuring it out for yourself.”

We might have played to the wrong green on the Black two or three times without a caddie orienting us.  The caddies at Streamsong are great and more than helpful on all the courses, but critical on the Black.

A.G. Crockett,

Agree wholeheartedly!   I should have said, "figuring it out for yourself with a caddie's assistance".   :)

Re: (Par 3) Short Course by C&C

I was there two weeks ago and they have not started construction yet.

So, probably not ready until 2024 or maybe some preview play in early Winter 2023 if they build and grass fast!
