Played there a few times in the late 1980's when I lived in South Bakersfield. Wide open then with few trees and slightly rolling. Very good big greens and stretched over 7000 yards and was tough from the back tees. They held alot of Open qualifying tournaments there. The area is pretty far out of town and somewhat isolated from civilization such that it is in Bakersfield. 8)
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Thanks for that David, very interesting article. I played Rio Bravo in the early 80's, I remember a par 5 that was over 700 yards long!

Was often a site for 1st or 2nd stage of q school.
It was a great site for players who had played the tour or in my case, played in Australia. Greens were very fast with a good amount of movement, placing the ball in a good position on the greens was very important.


I thought it was a pretty good course for the qualifiers
