Nature Faker is the title of Wayne's book
One of the best architects ever was a camouflage expert
The old course doesn't look like a course, the original bunkers were from sleeping sheep

Doak spent his career blurring the line between golf and nature
When experts saw Wolf Point, on flat ground, during construction they couldn't tell where or what anything was, even Fergal didn't know where the holes were without a guide during the sale process

Mike,
Yes short grass is noticeable to the human eye and so are massive bright white sand bunkers and perched up greens and water features braced with railroad ties and ....  As we all know, some of the greatest and most famous holes/courses in the world are esthetically extremely different.  That is why we love this game.  What other sport can have playing fields as different as the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, the 15th at Cypress Point, the 8th at Royal Troon, the 11th at Shinnecock Hills.  Some are more "natural" and blur with nature more than others but we love them all.
