What’s the deal with Dismal? In 2010 I joined Dismal River as a gift to myself for my 50th. Changed my life along with many others. On a recent thread about national memberships the course seems to be forgotten. What happened and where does the facility stand now?

No, I left when I joined Prairie Dunes which obviously casts no shadows on my time at Dismal. I quit a year or so after the opening of Red and just before the course sold.

btw. No longer a member of Prarie Dunes either.

JK - You've been a member of some excellent clubs and lived on a course that was perhaps less than excellent. What's your process and what are your criteria for selecting where to join/play/live?

A couple guys I know from Omaha still play out there. Sounds like the hunting/shooting has helped revenue. Heard they were thinking of selling home lots again, which is interesting. Not sure where all the bankruptcy stuff with Joel stands.

I know someone from WBYC who is also a member of Dismal. Think he joined a few years ago. I think he has really enjoyed it and even goes down there with his family, including young kids.

I'm told they have a club plane now that will pick up groups of guys going on trips there.

Wow that is something a plane?  Never heard of club having a plane.   And there are a couple other courses being built in remote nebraska now.

I really liked dismal for my only time back in 18.  It was an outdoorsman paradise for sure. Almost everything ypy would want to do they offered.
