a number of the courses built in the NYC tri-state area in the 90s/00s were initially public or daily fee and then went private. among those in this category not yet mentioned that immediately come to mind:
- Hawke Pointe, NJ
- New Jersey National
- Pine Barrens GC, NJ
In SE Florida, Emerald Dunes originally opened as a daily fee before going private.
You could probably generalize this nationwide that clubs built between 1980-2005 were more likely to go from public to private whereas older previously private clubs that ran into economic troubles were more likely to open up their play to the public.
