Here in KSA we have 3 sand courses to play on our compounds. When I first came we only had a sand course at that compound and I was excited to play. I can attest that the novelty wore off very quickly for me, despite trying to like it. You bring your turf with you and the putting is interesting but VERY flat as you can't really have many breaks on oily sand greens. Also we had a guy in a hut next to the greens to use his big broom to smooth the green after each group. The interesting part is seeing your putting lines when you putt, which was unique as you certainly can tell if you hit your line. It helped me on your putting stroke a little due to that feedback. However you really need to wack it on sand.
Sorry to steal anyone's thunder who may want to play sand golf, but it would not be on my list anymore.
