way ot Open tix 2022
« on: January 18, 2022, 09:32:22 AM »
Have family across the pond so entered the lottery, on a whim, and won four tix for two days. Now I need one more for Thursday.

Looking online the average price of one is well over 400 pounds. Are these like Masters tix now or is the price likely to moderate closer to the event?

thanks folks,
ed

We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

Good for you. Four of us entered the draw for the Friday each looking for four tickets and none of us were successful. Personally, I've attended every Open bar one played in Scotland, even if only for one day, since 1975. At least two of the other three would be similar. We may still go to St Andrews on the day and enjoy the atmosphere and see if we can get a ticket but I think it unlikely. Sorry to say but I think it's the end of an era with the corporate/ticket touts taking over. A real shame.

:'( The first Open to not offer tix by simply walking up was 2019 Portrush(pent up demand in Ireland), then we had RSG and the pandemic.
I entered the lottery for all 7 days of The Open at St. Andrews and did not hit once.
It truly is the end of an era, and I'm confident Golf(the game) is not better for it.
This is another reason why I am so sick of the "grow the game" mantra etc. which is generally simply code for grow the pocketbooks of those in the business.(and yes I'm in the business)
It also greatly changes the makeup of those in attendance at tournaments.
Golf booms are great for course owners, ticket brokers and developers-not golfers.
Pity.

Ed, Niall, Jeff,

Don’t give up hope of attending just yet, and at retail prices. The Open website FAQs say that any tickets available after the ballot has been completed will be offered for sale to members of The One Club (which can be signed up to on theopen.com). They are also launching a ticket resale site where people can buy and sell unwanted tickets at face value.

Not sure how many ticket offers wouldn’t have been taken up but you had to take all days you applied for and couldn’t pick and choose which ones to purchase. Assume most would have still bought whatever they asked for with the plan to offload any they no longer wanted via the resale site.

Niall,

I’m not surprised that you have attended

I hit on 2 tickets for two spread out days and decided logistically wouldn’t work so didn’t follow through. I was afraid I was going to have to rely on one of the Dallas pros to qualify to have any shot at lodging. And maybe going when I can’t play the course is a potential let down. Last Open I attended was the four way playoff at Muirfield and still get chills thinking about walking down 17 right behind Els.

I have been kicking around going myself and found this link to a site the R&A will have for official ticket resale, at face value. Not sure how many would even use this as there is money to be made elsewhere.
