There are very few that I enjoyed watching more than Seve. He might not have been in a class by himself, but it didn't take long to call the roll.

JME

I once asked him what was the best shot he ever hit.
Without hesitation it was "The chip at Lytham" (88 Open 72nd hole)
"What about the 3 wood out of the bunker at the Ryder Cup? (1983 Florida)
"That was for the team - the chip was for me"

He was a remarkable player - for me the best I've seen to just watch play golf. Tiger's golf was probably better but at that level their best was absolutely comparable. But given the choice I'd watch Seve.
I've been lucky enough to watch them play great golf at Royal Melbourne and it shows how much better professional golf is when it's played on great golf courses.
Perhaps surprisingly the next two players I'd pick for great Royal Melbourne golf were Hale Irwin (64 in R1 1978) and Lydia Ko - Australian Open 2014.
But MacKenzie built that place for Seve - he just didn't know it at the time.

I was hoping you'd jump in--thanks.

I think I remember you once posting SB was the only man to win at RM-W, ANGC, and TOC. Makes me think the horses/courses idea is accurate.

Yes -Seve is the only one to win at RM (Composite) St Andrews and Augusta.

Of course Jack would have done it if he'd bothered -there were plenty of tournaments at RM in the 70s when he was at his best.  Tiger too obviously.
Faldo had plenty of tries at RM without winning. Watson won at RM and Augusta. Maybe Zac Johnson should have paid more attention to RM - he could have joined a pretty special club.

British golf photographer David Cannon has also published a book about Seve:

https://www.sevethebook.com/

He recently did a Cookie Jar Golf podcast to talk about it:

https://cookiejargolf.com/112-seve-ballesteros-with-david-cannon/

I have a copy of the book. It is quite good.
