New course at St Andrews Bay
« on: December 24, 2021, 11:06:05 AM »

Does anyone on here know anything about a new course planned for St Andrews Bay?

Mackenzie & Ebert’s 2021 annual review says that they’ve been appointed to “design a world-class course at St Andrews Bay” which will have “the best views of the town of St Andrews of any of the courses along the coastline.”  Planning is “well underway”.

The developer is the owner of the Fairmont and there are photos of the existing courses.  It’s not clear whether what is planned is a redevelopment of one (or both) of them or a new course, presumably on the stretch of coastline to the south of the Kittocks.

The hotel was sold a couple of years ago to a Hong Kong-based finance group.
I suspect the new development must be on the land to the east of the Kittock’s. Can’t find any chat about it on the Council Planning portal though.
Cheers,

I thought one of the courses was going to be sacrificed for a redesign...can't remember which course.

Are they visualisations, Ally?  They look like photos of the existing Kittocks course to me.

Hi James,

They probably are! I haven’t played Kittocks and didn’t zoom in… bunch of holes along the cliff tops there. Should be some great potential…

What I understand is that they are going to blow up the Kittock's and Torrance courses and replace with one course spread across both sites.
2024: Royal St. David's; Mill Ride; Milford; Jameson Links, Druids Glen, Royal Dublin, Portmarnock, Old Head, Addington, Parkstone, Denham, Thurlestone, Dartmouth

That’s a shame cos there’s some bloody good holes on both courses (with a few clunkers, obvs!) Maybe a composite course could have been an option. Not much in the way of fees doing that, of course!

Maybe the demand is for a links style course and not a pristine resort course. When you think about Saint Andrews do you think about a course that is a links and rough. What they have there now is a place that works well in other locations but it just doesn’t feel like St Andrews.

No, went to the Bahamas or somewhere else exotic! Now back in Canada I think.

The Kittocks course was originally the Devlin. The 17th and 18th on the current Kittocks were previously the closing holes on the Torrance and think the name changed (from the Devlin) when they added these holes into the routing.
