PNC Championship Tees
« on: December 19, 2021, 06:23:03 PM »

The field for the event has quite a range of ages and abilities.  I was struck by a few things regarding their use of different tees.  First, that the senior pros and ams (55-73) were playing  the same tees at 6576 yards.  It seems to me that distance is to short for senior pros but too long for senior ams.  It seems that the 12 year old tees would be suitable for me at the opposite end of the age spectrum.  Finally, it's interesting that the super senior legends in their 80's are plating at 5500 yards.  It makes me wonder why I have so much trouble reconciling moving up to shorter tees.  I haven't seen enough of the action but I wonder if this usage of tees levels the field and whether the architectural experience is similar?

The pros are playing from the 7,106-yard “red” tees; the 6,576-yard “white” tees are being used by pros and family members ages 55–73, Nelly Korda and family members ages 14 and 15; the 6,036-yard reds are for Charlie Woods and Karl Stenson; and the 5,499-yard “blue” tees are for Lee Trevino and Gary Player, the pros who are over 73.

The architectural experience is similar.  It’s pretty boring for everyone!

It’s an exhibition, and they’re doing whatever they need to do to make the players competitive.

Was JD II playing from the pro tees or Am tees? Did the Am tees depend on handicap?

Wayne,

John Daly Jr. was playing from the professional tees, and certainly longer tees than his old man.
