Golf book for Christmas
« on: November 11, 2009, 09:39:21 AM »
My wife usually buys me a golf book as part of my Christmas present and I've recently been browsing Amazon as to which one I'd prefer to receive ;)

I'm looking at photography based books and am currently undecided between Darius Oliver's Planet Golf USA (I already have the original Planet Golf) and Golf Courses: Fairways of the World by David Cannon.

Has anyone seen both or either of these books?  Any recommendations as to which one I should mention to Santa? ;)
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

Have only seen, and have, Planet Golf USA.  Highly recommended and well worth it.  Comments on courses tend to be in line with thoughts here.

Andrew,

I have the first Planet Golf book and it is excellent.  The USA version is on my Christmas list along with fellow GCAer Chris Wirthwein's account of the history of Crooked Stick.

Cheers,

Mark

  Andrew,

Planet Golf has writings about the courses along with photos. I would choose it over Fairways for that reason.

I for one am anxiously awaiting the release of "One Divot at a Time" by a noted GCAer.

I don't think one book can contain all the world...

Thanks Melvin, wish I could do a book on the feather ball era but that is a looong way off.

I am actually working on a book on Tom Stewart (of St. Andrews 1891-1931), it has been in the works for 10+ years and everyone is worried I'm going to kick off before it's finished. Then I would like to do Robert White (of St. Andrews 1870's-1890's).
It has always seemed dumb to me that an American would do it before a Scot. Hoping to finish it up in the next 6-12 months.

And yes I have an editor, two actually, so that people won't have to read my writing.
