RIP Neil Regan
« on: November 29, 2021, 04:20:15 PM »
I received word today that Neil Regan sadly passed away yesterday.  He was a dear friend to many in this community.  As Winged Foot's historian, having taken over for Doug LaRue Smith, Neil was instrumental in providing Gil Hanse's team the research and images need to restore Winged Foot's East and West courses so meticulously.  With the success of the 2020 US Open, I know Neil was turning his attention and efforts to the Club's centennial celebration in 2023 and it will be terrible not to have him there.  He was also a frequent visitor to GB&I belonging to several clubs.  Neil loved to go out late in the evening at Winged Foot and spend time putting from 80 yards out to show how the ground features used to influence running shots in the early days and he would hit putts from all over each green, particularly 1 West.  He loved the game and its history, but most of all he loved his friends.  He will be missed.

Well said Michael!  Thank you...    I had the great pleasure of playing Hollywood GC with Neil last summer.   For the 4 hours we were out there he didn't stop taking, laughing or smiling.   His putts from 100 yards off the green were something to witness.  It guys like Neil Regan why I love the game so much.   He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Neil hosted me Winged Foot about 5 years ago and we had a wonderful time.  We stayed in touch over the years and I talked to him last year during the US Open.  I remember sending him a cook book from Louisiana and he would tell me about different recipes he would try.  I was always impressed with his love for the game, but more important his love for Winged Foot.

Winged Foot lost a library of knowledge and we all lost a friend in golf.

Thoughts and prayers go towards Neil and his family.
