The irony is that the things that made Myrtle Beach attractive in the first place...uncluttered, tons of golf courses, affordable, quick car rides up and down the strip, quiet beaches, in-and-out dining, etc., are all slipping away with the mass migration Jonathan mentioned.

Mike, the positives are still here FOR NOW but the times to enjoy those has shortened. Local golf in Myrtle Beach-December through February-is still a joy. The coming "winter" season may shine a light on possible congestion. Not surprisingly, the fall shoulder season has been a boon to the courses here this year.

Course closings for residential development has been a theme here for a couple of years. Yet, Heather Glen is not fully developed. The same is true for Indian Wells. Waterway Hills has been reclaimed by flora and fauna.
As far as PLAYING golf is concerned, losing the Cane Patch par three course maybe the greatest loss in the area. This past year was the first time my visiting friend's kids did not play it (both pre-teens). The options? Putt/Putt which they can get at any time at the Jersey Shore or...Myrtle Beach Top Golf.

With real estate becoming more valuable, how cool would a "Cradle" like, 10-15 acre short course be in Myrtle Beach, lit for night play?   My sense is there is a significant market for that type of venue.

Mike, I referenced this in another thread. I'm baffled by it.
As you know, there are very few private options here. A residential recluse with an attached 6/9/12 hole loop or executive/par three offering, to me, would be very attractive.
Farmstead, which recently closed, was a particular place of interest in this regard. The property is enormous.

Like you (I assume) "non-traditional" courses are still a tough sell.
The Aero Club at the south end, close to Market Commons, is attempting a similar experience, though the marketing is more beer friendly than family friendly.
P.S. If anyone is within 20 miles of the Market Commons, go to Toffinos. Order anything and overspend on the pastries.

The Aero Club is the old Midway Par 3 near the airport. It has been closed since Burroughs & Chapin sold the land to the airport to preserve the flight line. A friend of mine arranged to lease it and reopen the course as Aero using the aviation theme. Now in very good condition and fun to play. It's a really good afternoon or evening addition for folks on buddy trips. They are doing VERY well.

By the way, I think Glen Dornoch closing may have been a false rumor.


There's still supposedly another MB course closing next year, but it seems like it's not Glen Dornoch.

Edward, according to a local packager, GD seems safe for a couple of years.

Over/under on MB course closings for 2022 is currently 2.5. Tough bet either way.
