This week on tour(s)

Quite the contrast. On the PGA Tour there’s Summit Club, which gave up the lowest first round scoring average all year (68.95). On the European tour there’s Valderrama, where the cut’s looking to be +5 or +6. Wide-open versus densely treed, tricky versus straightforward(?)….thoughts on either/both?

Valderrama seems like the more interesting venue to watch golf; Summit looks pretty straightforward for a tour event…I think?

I just listened to the Paulsons talk about that. They both said Summit was where you could have fun without getting beaten up.

One recounted his first round at Valderrama. Said he asked his caddy on every hole, "Where am I supposed to hit it here? "

And liked the course. Mind you they're two overthehill tour pros currently playing to +4 or +5 handicaps.
Over time, the guy in the ideal position derives an advantage, and delivering him further  advantage is not worth making the rest of the players suffer at the expense of fun, variety, and ultimately cost -- Jeff Warne, 12-08-2010
