Well we can definitely thank the grazing animals of the UK for the natural selection of our modern turfgrasses! Without them the grasses we see today might be quite different

Just wondering if that's Southerndown?

Yes Paul, it’s splendid Southerndown. The 18th green as seen from inside the very nicely appointed clubhouse.
The auto’s are surprisingly effective and likely have their place Brett, but the four legged version is a very inexpensive, effective and traditional element of the game and where courses are sited on common land local farmers have grazing rights for their animals. Worth pointing out that the quality of sword sheep produce from centuries of roaming and nibbling an area of terrain is terrific.
Grazing sheep naturally seem to produce the ideal height-of-cut (height-of-nibble) for fairways and are happy to wonder over irregularly shaped humps and bumps and hollows.
Once upon a time TOC had grazing sheep. Be kinda nice if they still did.

Sheep shit is a worth while sacrifice for the irregular "mowing patterns" and perfect height provided.
