What are dripping lines?
« on: October 06, 2021, 11:04:23 AM »
Was reading this article about the renovations at The International:

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/introducing-newly-reimagined-oaks-course-142241225.html

In it, they write: "So as players make their way off the tee, they will be welcomed by renovated bunkers featuring Davis’ signature dripping lines."

Maybe I haven't been paying enough attention, but I've never heard the term "dripping lines" before. It seems like dripping lines would be related in some way to irrigation? Is the way he is doing it different from other architects, in which case it would be a "signature" look or method?

I think it’s more to do with the look of the bunker edges and how they’re ‘dripping’ like frosting on carrot cake.

That's an interesting mental image Bonnar, a bunker that looks something like this?  Anyone have any examples?

There are photos in the article. I suppose the edges of the bunkers look sort of like dripping frosting? I've never heard it described that way, nor for that matter heard anyone say they would want to have bunkers that look like frosting. But if that is your "signature" style, there must be a market for it. I really like that course (the Fazio one), so I hope this renovation only enhanced what was already there.

Thanks Dan,

I always thought that was the frilly edge/lace bunker style?
