Love it or hate it, there is no course like this one in the world. A maximalist masterpiece that took an insane amount of imagination and vision.
I know everyone hates the 5th hole, but I have always been dissapointed by the 16th. It's too-much like the 2nd to me, and doesn't really offer a new challenge. I always thought it would have been cool if Dye could have bent the green in the opposite direction, away from the ocean, perhaps partially hidden behind a dune. Offer a different look.
I guess that's the thing about a course that was entirely manufactured: You can second guess every decision to death.

the interviewer asked beck how he felt "being the bob dylan of the 90's" and beck quitely responded "i actually feel more like the bon jovi of the 60's"

The video was certainly worth a watch, a few things of note:

- WS looks Irish? Ummm is that true?   ::)
- The green surrounds on 6 looks absolutely nasty, especially if that pin is on the right.  Gulp!
- Love the look of the 12th with that green wrapping around the back.  Guessing at least one round they'll have an ungodly pin back there.
- Is it a weakness that all the par 3s are tucked near the water and all look/play similar?
- I know 18 gets a lot of guff, but I think it looks absolutely terrific.  The video used the term Frankenstein which seemed fitting for such an out-of-the-box finisher, even if a beast to play.
- And which golfers is he referring to who think the course is natural?  C'mon man.

P.S. Seems it would work great as a match play course, because you can be out of the hole so quickly with such acute risk/reward.  Hit the ball on the beach on 17?  Fugettaboutit, easy concession.

I think the par 3's are all individually excellent, but I would venture to say they are less than the sum of their parts due to their similarity. But that is  a small complaint. Most courses wish they could have these par 3's.

I think 17 deserves mention as one of the great par 3's.

I wanted to keep this post GCA centered, so as not to upset Bonnar again!  ;D

My question is, does the architecture at WS lend itself to two team-mates who are trying to patch things up?  Or is the difficulty found at this venue too much to overcome, ie infinite bunkers, water, OB, etc ?  Especially if they paired them up together?

How is the course overly difficult when the Major Championship scoring record was set on it in 2015?Also, Stricker had the course setup soft and with no rough. Unless the wind really blows there will be lots of birdies.

Is there a better ball busting long par 3 then the 17th? I get so happy when they miss left and watch them have to extract themselves from hell.
