Given how popular hoodies have become.... and are seemingly acceptable, I've owned a few single color "T-shirts" made from decent material over the years that look a lot better than one of those.

Even one of the best players on the planet frequently wore them.....at Augusta! ;)
That doesn’t make it ok.

Agreed,

Only trying to point out that dress codes are often somewhere between arbitrary and asinine.  But hey its a private club, so I get it.

P.S.  In this case, I don't see why its a problem for your friend to stop in at a gas station or park nearby and make a quick swapout...

That’s the agreement we’ve come to. We love to argue over the general rule of thumb or how many out of ten would agree w me vs you. Classic stuff. This is a victory for me.

The player guarding first base for the Canadian softball team is not wearing a ball cap. Caps should be mandatory. Very offensive.

"guarding?" I've watched a lot of softball in my day, but not familiar with that terminology. . .

What I think is hilarious about all this is that we've been conditioned that it is not only acceptable, but should be perfectly normal, to go change into golf attire in a filthy gas station bathroom, as opposed to the immaculate facility to which you are en route.

I've done it many times, and I can't stand driving several hours to a top facility just to stop at the nearest greasy gas station off the exit and change my clothes. I've also worn my golf attire for the whole drive, and that is just as bad.

I think the worst is not being able to change and wear comfortable clothes after the round. A couple years ago, I drove 4 hours to play 36 holes in 100-degree weather. You can bet your bottom dollar I'm not driving 4 hours home in my sweaty golf clothes. All so a few millionaires don't blush at the sight of my bare calves. Bless their hearts.   ::)

The interesting part is, as a guest at various Private clubs, I'm usually shown where the locker room is for washing up post round or such and often been told to make myself at home, which is always greatly appreciated.

I guess this is one of those unspoken rules where you aren't supposed to take them up on the offer to do such like change clothes...

This would specifically not be about pants vs shorts. More you’d show up in gym shorts and a t-shirt, head into the locker room to change. Potentially going through the pro shop or clubhouse to do so. Me personally, that’s a no. Especially if the club has a dress code which they all do.

I’d say after the round, you want to grab a shower and change into fresh clothes, for sure. My fresh clothes would still be club appropriate. Granted, I don’t own a pair of jeans.

What golf attire do you wear that it isn't comfortable to wear for a car drive?

I'm guessing that Ryan is suggesting that he looks a bit of a nerd in golf attire to all those people he encounters along his journey who aren't golfers.

Yeah, Robin hit on what I meant to say. Not that it is necessarily uncomfortable, but you do get some looks coming out of the truck stop or 7/11 bathroom dressed like Nick Faldo.

That being said, I've never dressed in golf attire to make a long drive to visit family, for example. Golf attire isn't uncomfortable, but it also isn't the most comfortable.

Ok. I guess I don't much care what people think about my clothes. For anyone that has seen the bum I am...that much is very clear  :) .

Hiking, surfing, swimming, golfing, dinner in the city after work with the wifey... the O'Neil Hybrid shorts cover it all:

If you have access to a locker in the locker room you can change into golf gear when you get there.  However the dress code is when you are on property which almost always includes collared shirts and no denim anywhere.  I have seen at Riviera, for example another tennis dress code as well, if you are there to play tennis.

Pretty easy to adhere to the club expectations, like private school dress code.

1. Dress code for school
2. Dress code for PE
3. Dress code for your sport after school

Off season many clubs allow denim in the clubhouse and dining area I have noticed. As others mentioned guest policies and dress code are available on most websites or ask your host.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit .....
I hardly own any clothes that aren't golf attire...
I now realize how silly I look in the real world-though I might wear a pair of light boots when walking or working in the woods.

Seems a very silly problem on many levels.
Changing in a gas station to avoid walking into a club to change in a club locker room, vs, being unable to wear an(extra) collared shirt for a drive or flight.

Thrilled that softball is back in the Olympics. I didn’t like the term “play” fist base. When I played infield I guarded my base. No one was taking first on my watch without a fight.

I do not recall on any level of baseball a player not wearing a cap.

Obviously not OK.  Now, if we were talking about fashionable stretch denim jeans.......
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Like Jeff, I don't own much that isn't golf attire, except for suits and running shorts. I do not own jeans and haven't since I was a kid. There are a lot of folks that wear bermudas and golf shirts. I would never go anywhere in a tee shirt.
