Yale Golf Course

Does anyone know if you can book a tee time at Yale?  The website says anyone who is not a resident of Connecticut is not permitted on the course :'(   Is this true?

As of now, access to the course is limited to Connecticut State residents for the remainder of the year.

The new superintendent Jeff Austin is doing a nice job with the golf course. Reports of Yale’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Seeing all those “the sky is falling and fire is coming from the ground!” posts about the condition of Yale awhile back we’re so ridiculous.  It felt like Days of Our Life episode.  So overblown

This story about a proposal for a restoration in the YDN last month is very promising https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2021/05/07/proposal-in-the-works-for-a-yale-golf-course-restoration/. Sounds like its still a few years off but would be great to have a real restoration of an amazing golf course.

You get the golf course all to yourself now. Of course you love it!

Thinking back to this time last year, Yale didn’t have a superintendent or a Director of Golf/Head Pro.  There were no members and the course wasn’t being mowed. Yale was not actively seeking to fill these positions at the time. Yale now has Peter Palacios Jr. and Jeff Austin. They seem to be doing everything right and heading in a positive direction.  I feel like the alarm of the golfers and media was justified and likely resulted in these exemplary hires.

Maybe it was Yale’s plan the whole time, but if it was, it was never communicated to the golfers until Peter was hired.  There was a huge disconnect between the golfers and the University concerning the golf course.  The golfers were fearful of losing their gem and the only way they could connect to the University was through the media.  Of course it was exaggerated (there is always crab grass growing in the Yale bunkers  ;) ), but it seems to have worked!

I wonder if the new regime at Yale even realizes they are hosting a regional next year?  It wouldn't completely shock me if they didn't ;)

It's July 4th, 2021 - Independence Day here in the beautiful country that we call the United States of America.

Timeline:
  • November 2019 - Yale hits #83 on the Golf Magazine World list - https://golf.com/news/11-new-courses-top-100-world/
  • January 2020 - Super Scott Ramsey leaves for CC of Farmington
  • Spring 2020 - Peter Pulaski, Yale's Pro leaves with never a word to Members, Friends and Supporters
Then there is the Union busting of my friends the Starters and the literal intimidation of the Yale Daily News. Disgusting behavior at the least, probably violation(s) of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution that I will no longer support when Yale Golf Course someday re-opens to non-Connecticut players and everyone pretends it didn’t happen. No thanks, there are lots of golf courses out there. It was a good 25+ year run, but I value people over courses.

Yale continues to improve and although a ways out I have high hopes for the 2022 NCAA Men’s Regional being contested in May. New Haven has been afflicted with a fair amount of rain over the last couple of weeks but the playing corridors and greens were firmer than expected today. Finally I think this Fall will see primo conditions as super Jeff Austin seems pretty well acquainted with the property after just a short period of time.

Does anyone know the real reasoning why only CT residents can play at the moment?  I assume its due to COVID but what a shame I cannot drive over from only 1 state away to play.
