Had the pleasure of going around the redesigned Belmont golf course today. First tee came in and renovated and restored the final 12 holes with some minor changes to the original. The first 6 holes were turned into a driving range and short course. I would put the 6 3's up on the short course against most any par 3s. All unique holes, some takes on some Tilly's a sort of reverse Biarritz with a raised mound in the middle, and a remake of the original 1st par 3 in the first 6 holes. The restored 12 did a great job reclaiming some bunkers that were lost over time, finding a few old tee boxes hidden, adding some others, 2 world class par 3's with one being the closing hole, really took all the greens and made them interesting again and added some really good dips and turns. Tipped out you have a few 4s pushing 430 to 450, two of which play up the hill into the prevailing wind. A semi horse shoe par 5, another one that can be played from two different tees that wildly change the look of the holes. The greens were fairly firm and from what I understand they will keep them rolling around 9 or so due to all the undulation. I would be interested to hear if there are any other 12 hole courses out there, as of now, this is the tops.
