Assuming Access Isn't An Issue...
« on: May 12, 2021, 02:14:01 PM »
What precisely is intended?

1.  Please don't recommend a public course.
2.  I'm kind of a big deal.
3.  I'm packing the rater card.
4.  I'm well connected, but not well enough to call a contact in the local market.
5.  Really, you don't know who I am?
6. Reciprocity.

Just curious.  Thoughts?

Mike

This was probably directed at my recent post, so I'll answer for me.  It usually means that I have some access to private courses through my own club, but I'm not always sure a call from the pro shop is going to be successful (I don't belong to a top 100 course), or that it's worth bothering the pro shop (if the private courses aren't meaningfully better than the public ones).  Depending on the city, it might also might mean that I have some connections but I might not want to bother someone if the public options are as good or better.  So for me, "assuming access isn't an issue" just means I want to have a discussion about all of the courses, private and public, as possibilities for a single round in another city that doesn't get bogged down in questions about access.

I always interpret it as communicating that the person is not asking for help with access.

Same here, I always figured it was a case of mostly #2, and sometimes #3, where they already got the in and just want a recommendation of which ones are must plays in the area.

Carl, my post was prompted by your post but not directed at it.

I'm just curious and was throwing some chum in the Treehouse's water.

So sorry.
