I agree with you that adding distance through tees is the best idea.It is cheaper as well.I just want to caution that bunker placement by Flynn in fairways was more than just distance off the tee.The angle from the tee is also important.He also was concerned with the ground around the bunker,the view from the tee,and more.So we need to be careful .I advocate the use of a professional when making these changes.I am well aware of my amateur status when it comes to gca.
We have moved a few bunkers and in at least one instance significantly changed the concept--#11.
The temporary #5 tee changes the angle as you know.
The movement back of the #16 tee(years ago) has brought a tree just across the creek on the right much more into play than Flynn saw from that tee at 130 yards.This is an example that there are many things to keep in mind.
