One Last Course Recommendation for Bogey
« on: March 26, 2021, 08:34:27 PM »

I've enjoyed reading the Top 10 Bucket List thread and realized again how fortunate I've been to play a few of those.   I'm down to one - Painswick.  That said, I've posted my top 99 favorites below and invite each and all to tell me the one remaining course that I should play and why.  Just one.  Don't bother with the Pine Valleys and Oakmonts - too difficult.  Or Augusta National Golf Club which I dearly love but cannot fathom sullying with my poor game.  My favorite 99 are in alphabetical order on this post and the next.

Aiken GC
Aldarra
Augusta CC
Ballybunion Old
Ballyhack
Ballyneal

Himalayan GC, by a mile, if you were up for the trip.

If not, The Loop would be a twofer.

In fairness Sandbox, Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes were oversights.

Thought of 4 I didn't see.

Cape Wickham, Chicago GC, Shoreacres, Royal Worlington & Newmarket (Mildenhall/Sacred Nine)

Maybe Chicago bias, but I thought of 2 in the windy city. I'd pick Chicago GC by a hair over Shoreacres. Neither of which are easy to access.

Chicago GC vs. Sacred Nine, seeing as you wanted easier access I'd day the Sacred Nine as well as novelty of what many say is the best 9 hole course around.
Sacred Nine vs. Cape Wickham - CW is in my top 5 and think it is spectacular. It is a long way away however and then another plane ride to King Island. Sacred Nine is so unique and understated pure golf I think I would go with Royal Worlington & Newmarket. Easier to get to, available to public and you would have added a unique experience to your golfing life. I certainly was thankful to have played it.

The Naval Academy Golf Course by William Flynn and updated by Andrew Green, followed by crabs at Cantlers - https://cantlers.com

Bogey should have a Military golf course on his list!! https://usnagolf.com/the-course/

Don't worry too much about the golf kudos and go somewhere other the the stock standard US/UK and Ireland.

Go to Sth Africa or NZ or Tom's pick, play in Morrocco, France, Holland or Argentina, wonderful places and sheds loads more to do other than golf.

If there is a better trip than playing/staying in Paris, I haven't done it, your list is way to Anglo for my tastes.

Hopefully Bogey will advise where he won’t go so it can be narrowed down. I won’t speak for him but can’t imagine he is going to fulfill his quest with a trip to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Morocco or Argentina via Tennessee but maybe I’m wrong. Lots of fun suggestions across the globe.

Fisher's - the ferry ride, the property, the water views, and just a joy to play.  One of those places when you tap in on 18, you want to go right back to 1 and start again.
Can't get back to RDGC soon enough

Bogey, I've played 37 on your list. Those would also  be on my own favorites list. I think you'd love Garden City, LACC and Sleepy Hollow. Any of those three would be a great 100th on your list.
