I have played them: one Palmer, one Nicklaus. They are ok but a pretty place to play. If I were one of the home owners, I would be very upset by this turn of events.

Tom, my understanding is that they're also converting (or have converted) from public to private, so perhaps that takes some sting out for a golfing owner.  Either way, it seems the "golfing community" continues to evolve into the "outdoor recreation community."  Sign of the times, not all bad.

I am reasonably certain the nine holes that were closed were the front nine of the Nicklaus course, which I don't believe had (much?) housing on it when I was last there, in 2011. We played our conference golf tournament there my last three years in college, always on the Palmer Course, which I like but think could be special with a touch-up from Brandon Johnson and Thad Layton, APDC's current capos. I remember the 3rd and 4th holes, on the Chesapeake Bay, absolutely brutalizing us and the other teams because of the relatively little room each full shot grants a golfer, plus the strong breezes/winds at that spot on the property.

I live in Tidewater, played both courses once several years back.  They mustered no real desire for return play.

If i had bought a house there knowing that I had two courses to play and they closed one nine, I'd be very upset. That is why belonging to a club that is not member owned can be dicely.

That is why buying a home in ANY golf course development can be dicey, especially a brand new one.  There are only homes on 9 holes of the course, so the homeowners don't have much to complain about.
