Today's 4th Round
« on: March 13, 2021, 09:53:07 PM »
Great watching Bryson v Westwood 2 weeks in a row, last week I routed for Bryson, this week I'm routing for Westwood. 86% greens in regulation on Sawgrass, unbelievable.

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Cary,

Your post takes the “root” vs “rowt” argument to new levels. How are you pronouncing “route” in this context? 😉

I’ll naturally be rooting for Westwood. At 48 years of age he’s playing the best golf of his life seemingly without a care in the world and with his missus on the bag. He’s clearly in a very confident and happy place.

I can see him picking up a couple of long overdue majors this year!

J Thomas is putting a classic clinic, great test for the pros

It's a field day for Dan Hicks getting to talk about one player's girlfriend and another player's dead family member.

Something is missing on #12. I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't get the job done. Is it that it's not penalizing enough to the right?

I agree, Matt.

I'm not convinced this version of #12 is better than the old Pete Dye version where you laid up and hit the second shot over a bunch of artificial mounds.  I have seen that short par 4 design on at least one other Pete Dye design (maybe the Mission Hills - Dye course?), and it's pretty OK by me.  Make them lay up accurately and stick the wedge.

As I watched Bryson D. bomb and gouge all over the place, I couldn't help but think his +/-100 yd game isn't all that great.

If he had the wedge play of  Brian Harman he'd have won the tournament in a runaway.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

I agree. The new 12th hole is the equivalent of the Tour pissing on Dye's grave in my eyes. I don't find that the hole fits in with the course, nor Dye's design philosophy. Also, there is so much room to the right of the green that it isn't even a very exicting driveable hole. Players just hit driver on or two the right and have an easy pitch, or a 3 wood right in front of the green and have an easy pitch. The old 12th was a cool hole.
I think the course could stand to have a few new back tee's to bring back some of the original shot values.
the interviewer asked beck how he felt "being the bob dylan of the 90's" and beck quitely responded "i actually feel more like the bon jovi of the 60's"
