At the amateur level, it's only modern day wimpism that has us encountering so few Par 4s that require a 5-wood / hybrid approach. Those clubs are easier to hit than ever before, fly hit and fairly straight (even for a mutt like me), and more often than not get most of us on or *around* the green in two. What the heck else do we want/expect as average golfers than having a chip & a putt for 'par'?! Complaining about *that* seems pretty wimpyistic. I mean, we either build (and play) courses for golfers who love the *game of golf* or we don't -- and working to make a par on a Par 4 seems to me to have always been at the heart of the game.
