Goswick and Muirfield
« on: March 09, 2021, 05:51:39 PM »
I’ve received an email today from the secretary at Goswick offering a special deal in partnership with Muirfield; 1 round at each for £250; 2 at each for £360; limited availability in May and June this year.

Would anyone be interested in joining me if there are still some dates available?  I suspect they’ll go quickly (if indeed they haven’t already).

Many thanks indeed for this James, which does seem prima facie a rather astonishing development. I love both places, and you could argue that if you wanted to appreciate (in a good way) the two extremes of British seaside golf club life, then this would be an amazing way to do it. I wonder if the HCEG are expecting a major downturn in US and other overseas visitors this summer? And for anybody thinking of taking this up, I would emphatically recommend the 72 hole option! It's about 75 minutes from one to the other, and of course a major part of the Muirfield visitor experience is the lunch: Goswick once provided one of the very best, and frankly largest golf club breakfasts I have eaten, but it may be tricky to combine the two...
Only sorry that I can't personally take up the offer this year.

A few other GCA'rs signed up for this deal last year and at the time I commented on whether it was a great deal. No argument about the quality of the courses but Goswick has always struck me as a £30 or £40 course which means Muirfield is valued £200 plus. I know that is cheap as chips compared to US but this isn't the US. I suppose it's a way of securing a Muirfield tee-time.

I think we have the same deal but in March (which is cancelled) for about £150.

St Andrews we’re doing a similar deal a few weeks ago. The big ticket clubs will have carried over group bookings from last year and due to travel restrictions these bookings still cannot be used. It’s nice to see Muirfield partnering with a smaller club who will no doubt appreciate the extra revenue.

Goswick has always struck me as a £30 or £40 course
£70 before 1pm, £50 1-3pm, £35 twilight rate.  £85 day rate.  All of which are absolute steals.  If you are suggesting that £40 is the appropriate cost for a course of the quality of Goswick, you haven't been out much recently.
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Thought I’d like to share a photo of the magnificent trophy so rudely stolen from me and my playing partner late last year. Revenge shall be taken this annum, swiftly, mercilessly and with great vengeance and furious anger!

You sound like a golfing Jules Winnfield. Come to that, Sam Jackson is a very passionate golfer. I wonder if that's the sort of thing he says when he loses a match?
