Mike, The faux look is exactly as I recall it. The previous owner's stewardship is something to be emulated.  I highly doubt this ownership group has done anything different to the look of the rocks, in the 20 + years they've owned it.

Actually the new ownership had to reinforce the new 5th hole and they had to rebuild and reinforce a portion of the 17th green and 18th tee when a storm wiped it out. They also had to reinforce the Pebble Beach beach club in the same way.


I don't know if Cypress Point used the same architects or construction company but the 15th and especially 16th have been fortified over the years. I remember playing Cypress about 15 years ago with a member when the 16th had just been finished and I asked him if the club had assessed the members for the work on 16?  He was angrily said "hell yes" and mentioned it was well over a million dollars.

fortunately I've played there when there was no faux rock or retaining wall, very natural walk along the 18th shore
the job they've done is the most tasteful possible
Carmel Beach has rip rap, and that is so unattractive and foreign to the area
the CCC is what runs the show and it is hard to say where Pebble and Carmel Beach will be in another 20 years regardless of rip rap or faux rock and retaining walls
