The Phoenix Open at TPC Scottdale ...must see TV?
« on: February 09, 2021, 06:34:18 PM »

It seems thru the years there is almost always a compelling finish to this tournament, can it just be coincidence? Other than ANGC and possibly Pebble, is there another course on Tour that has more potential drama coming down the stretch?

3 holes where Eagles can certainly be had - 13, 15, and 17...
..but 2 of them can also easily lead to big numbers, 15 and 17.

11 and 12, back to back difficult holes where you take your par and run and many contenders have had hopes dashed.

The short par 3 16th, in a one-of-kind setting, near the end of the round, when nerves are frayed and the fans are bearing down.

The 18th perhaps the lone disappointment where raw distance gains have nuetered its primary defense for most of the field that take the water out of play.

Yet on Super Bowl Sunday, this is always must watch golf!

I definitely enjoy watching more than any other non-Major other than The Players. Sawgrass also probably carries as much volatility down the stretch, right?

Jim,

Agreed there in principle, although with all the difficult closing holes, (even 16 can be tough with nowhere to lay up, its more of a hold on to your butt and try to get to the house without putting up a huge number.

But given the Players has the strongest top to bottom field year in and out, that's the primary attraction for me.
