Duncan, Tony,

Due to the ongoing doubts about travel from (and back into) Australia, Peter Shaw has, wisely I think, that he should drop out now, to allow plenty of time for someone to take his place.  We'd better choose an equally excellent venue for next year!

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Shame and hopefully  he can join next year.  I'll sort out a refund of deposit.

Duncan,

As I posted elsewhere, my optimism is turning to pessimism about travel to England this year. My preference is to hold out on making a decision until at least early August, though, hoping things might improve. However, that might be too late for the clubs. Would you mind checking with them and letting us know when we need to make a final decision? I'm not concerned about my deposit - just don't want to impact the hosts with late changes to numbers.

thanks

My flight got cancelled and the airline did not offer an alternative.  I will keep an open mind but it is looking very unlikely that I will make it this year.

Please use my deposit to help with dinner or a prize.

I'm still hoping to get there, but it's virtually certain that I won't be there for the entire BUDA.  My partner, Pam, has one a first place in a photography contest and her work will be displayed in Barcelona towards the end of the same week.  I want to get to Spain on Tuesday which means Sunday will be my last day for BUDA.  Assuming we are able to get to the UK, I will be in the area around Buxton for most the preceding week and I hope I can get some golf or meals or at least drinks with my BUDA confreres.

At any rate this serves as advance notice that my place will be vacant on Monday and Tuesday.

Congratulations to Pam. I’m hoping that Delta doesn’t ruin it all. Let me in!  I took the two Pfizer doses and that’s the best you can do. Properly vaccinated people can’t get it ( badly) or give it.

I think that the idea that the UK will approach a critical vaccinated level by mid July makes sense.

Yes, congratulations to Pam!!!

Guys... don't cancel your plans to attend the Buda. Trust me... travel is AOK right now... and, will be perfectly fine come August. I flew over to London at the end of May and had to "self-quarantine" for five days with England's  "test to release" program. It's is no big deal. No one really checks on you. Just got a phone call from NHS each day.

I fully expect the quarantine issue will be removed for the vaccinated by the end of July. Once you get here it is no different than your previous trips except that everyone is wearing a mask while indoors... except when you reach your table in a restaurant, then the masks come off.  ;)  Golf is the safest endeavor on the planet,.. natural social distancing!

Get vaccinated and book your flight. You will be glad you did!!!

Come on, Mayday! I've been in the UK since the last week of May. Spent a week in Deal, then drove up to North Berwick where I will be residing until the first week of October.

Jason,

Sorry to hear about the flights being cancelled. You will be missed! I had a trip booked on Delta at the end of July for Bandon and they cancelled. Offered me replacement flights that were totally impractical. I took the refund and rebooked on Alaska Air. Hopefully they will come through with the flights as booked.

I'm more concerned about flights than COVID or meeting whatever protocols maybe in place.

So, two days after posting that I was going to be unable to be on hand for all three days of the BUDA, we got an email from Fotohostrum informing us that the exhibit has been rescheduled until December due to all the different COVID protocols around the world.

It looks like I can be at the BUDA after all if we can get out of country.

Final question, did you guys miss me?

I'm reluctantly withdrawing. Feel free to use my deposit towards drinks or uncovered expenses.

I'm not personally worried about covid or its variants - it's the travel portion that I don't trust. Even if the UK eliminates their mandatory quarantine, arriving passengers will still have to pass a covid test, and then I would need another one before returning to the US. For me, it's not worth the risk of either a false positive or a breakthrough infection (had covid in Feb & have been fully vaccinated). While either of those is small, the impact would be huge, and Delta's changed my flight schedule more times than I can count. Combine with having to wear a mask throughout the entire airport/flight portion of the trip (16 hours), and it just doesn't make sense.

Two trips in 2022.....hopefully.

2019 I had to withdraw due to extreme cervical pain, last year COVID did in my BUDA trip, this year I regret that I am going to withdraw. Given the uncertain travel restrictions in the UK, the need to book air carriage with unreliable carriers and my desire to have firm options for summer golf trips have led to the decision.
I truly hope to get to next years BUDA and perhaps meet up with some of you in fall or winter if conditions permit.

Unfortunately - count me as a definitive out as well.  I am going to try to go to Greece in October with the family and doubling my risk of a quarantine does not seem wise.

Can we have an update on the attendance list please?

Looks like it's a repeat of last year's scenario, which is disappointing, but anticipated.

The two Jacks from my club and I bought tickets which we can cancel for $200. We are holding out hope.

I think as vaccinations continue to increase in US and UK and Delta variant is shown to be less debilitating or deadly there’s a chance in the next month that US/UK flights will open for fully vaccinated with no quarantine. Boy, that’s a lot to pray for!

I will miss the usual Yanks( and Canuck) that make this fun.
